Past Captains Team Texas Scramble
The Past Captains Texas Scramble held on the 19th June was a great success, with 21 teams battling out a very close competition.
Pictured at the right are Alasdair Ross and Craig Littlejohn with the Past Captains Trophy presented by Jim O'Brien, and their other prizes, on behalf of Team Ross who also included Aftab Ahmad and Dougie McBride.
They had the best handicap score of 57.1 (and shared the honour for best gross score of 63 with team Forsyth).
Second, pictured left, was Colin MacPherson's team with Danny Strain, Frank McKenna Jnr and Gordon Arthur on 57.8,
with Steven Cairns' team with David Kirkwood, Richard McLay and Iain Simpson third on 58.1.
Tom Owens (one of the organisers) and his team just missed out on the podium by .1 of a stroke with 58.2.
Jim Graham's team took a Magic 2 and nearest the pin on the 14th, and team Ross also took a Magic 2.
Nearest the pin on the 14th and another Magic 2 went to Jim Forsyth's team of John Brown Snr, David McBride and Iain G Brown.
The weather on the day was virtually unbroken sunshine, and with drinks, plus beefburgers
and steak sandwiches barbequed by Madeleine and Alison at the halfway
point, everyone had plenty of energy and commitment to score well.
In the closing speeches, Tom Owens offered his thanks to all the Past Captains who were so generous with the prizes, which included a particularly elegant malt whisky dispenser donated by Kenny Forrest which was held over pending the first hole in one in the Competition.

The magnificent trophy - a claret jug! - was presented by Jim O'Brien's PRW Properties and bears his and their name.
Tom also offers his thanks to Mark Ferguson on behalf of the Past Captains for prize sponsorship from Nexus Packaging. Alasdair Ross added his thanks on behalf of the competitors to Tom and the Past Captains for a well organised and exciting event.

Our Gents Team repeat their once in 100 years 2008 success - in 2009!
Having waited over a hundred years to follow the Club's first success in the County Team Championship, in winning the 2008 event the Club retained the trophy last Sunday at Cardross.
The Club was represented by Paul Semple, Richard Docherty and Gordon Thomson.
Strong afternoon performances from Paul with 73 and Richard with a fine 69 propelled the team to victory and a place the Scottish Club Team
Championship at Prestwick St Nicholas on 27 September 2009.
The event is a fore-runner to the County Matchplay Championship in which Richard has advanced to the semi-finals which take place the evening 0f 13th August
Report submitted by Gordon Thomson 12/8/2009.
Richard the new Club Champion
Richard Docherty followed up his extra hole victory in the Johnstone Cup the week before with a comeback victory in the Gents Club Championship for the Scott Hardie Trophy. He won 4&3 over 36 holes against Mark Ferguson, a multiple past winner of the Trophy.
His win was more remarkable for his having recovered from four down at the 16th in the morning round, going on to take take six holes in a row
from the 17th to lead by two by the fourth hole of the afternoon round. From there at two up he went on to hold and increase his lead, closing out the win at the 15th.
Here we see Michael Duff, Club Captain, presenting the Scott Hardie Trophy to Richard. In his victory speech, Richard said that winning the Trophy had been his ambition since joining the club as a youngster eight years ago.
Having dad William on the bag made it even more special!
Richard returns to University at Linden Wood College in St Louis, Missouri, USA next week to his Sports Management degree course, and having only just turned eighteen, we can only expect he will get better and better! Well done, Richard.
Seven trophies were on offer during the day, and this group picture here shows all the winners with their trophies.
Here we see, from the left: Drew Smith with the Cassels Cup, David Queen with the Turner Trophy, Ewen Ferguson with the Junior Club Championship Trophy, Chris Prior with the Chalmers Cup, Helen Faulds with the Ladies Club Championship Trophy, Fiona Alexander with the Ladies Bronze Trophy, and of course Richard with the Scott Hardie Trophy. Well done to all our winners!

Richard Docherty wins the Johnstone Cup
In a very exciting finish to the weekend competition over two rounds for the Johnstone Cup, Richard Docherty overcame current Club Champion Mark Ferguson in a playoff at the first extra hole.
They had both finished on 6 over par for the two rounds (142 gross) 4 shots clear of the next competitor, Peter Prior in third place. Here we see Michael Duff, Club Captain, presenting the Johnstone Cup to Richard. See all the results here.
At the extra hole, Richard won with a 4 against Mark's 5 after Mark had driven O/B with his first ball. Here we see Mark congratulating Richard just after the extra hole win, with the 1st green in the background.
There was also great interest in the race for 16th posiition, since only 16 players are invited to compete in the Matchplay Scott Hardie Cup, the Gentlemen's Club Championship. In the end there was no playoff for the last spot, eventually taken by past captain Jim O'Brien, with four players tied one shot back in the next position.
See the full draw for the Scott Hardie Cup here, the first round of which is played Monday 3rd August, with the final on Finals day at the Club on Saturday 8th August.
On that day, seven Club competitions are completed, including all the Championships for the Gents, Ladies and Juniors, as well as other playing class matchplay finals for the Ladies Bronze Trophy, the Gents' Cassels Cup, Turner Trophy and Chalmers Cup. Come along and enjoy a fantastic day out at the Club, and see whether Richard can continue his form and win the Club Championship - the "big one" as he put it in his victory speech - or whether Mark can win it yet again!
Chris Prior, Drew Smith & David Queen win the trophies
While Richard Docherty was performing his heroics against Mark Ferguson (click here), Chris Prior, Drew Smith and David Queen were winning very close matches against Tom Owens, Alistair Creevy and Clayton Cumming respectively.
In the Chalmers Cup, Chris won by 2&1 over Tom Owens in a match that swung both ways over the 36 holes, where both players were two up at one time or another. The quality of golf was reported as very high by the Match referee, David Kirkwood, and Chris, having levelled the match on the 28th, held on to win. See all the Chalmers Cup competition results here.
The Cassels Cup was won by Drew Smith by 1 hole, Alistair Creevy just failing to square the match on the last, just missing a long putt. The match was level at the 31st hole, but Drew took his lead on the 33rd which turned out to be decisive. See all the Cassels Cup competition results here.
The Turner Trophy was won by David Queen in another close match. Clayton made the slower start, going 2 down after seven holes, but squaring the match by the end of the morning round. The match remained very close until the inward nine of the afternoon round, where David pulled out a three hole lead to win by 3&2. See all the Turner Trophy competition results here.
Paul and David win the Jubilee Cup
Paul Semple and David Fabiani celebrate winning the Jubilee Cup at Windyhill over the last weekend in July!
Clean sweep for George and the boys!

Three members from Milngavie and three members from Bearsden played Slaley Hall last weekend on a Skyform sponsored weekend.
Michael McHugh won the singles title, as well as the "nearest the pin" trophy, and Martin Hughes and George Fotheringham (pictured here) won the doubles title, a clean sweep for the Bearsden boys!
Martin Hughes and Drew Smith win the Gala Greensome
There was an amazing total of 22 scores of 68 or under (net) as Martin Hughes and Drew Smith won the Gents' and Guests' Greensome today on a net score of 61.6.
Last year's winners couldn't do it again even with a 67.8

IG Brown, A Gilchrist; Gents Greensomes Member and Guest Winners, Gala 2007
All five leading prizewinners were covered by just 1.6 strokes net in an exciting competition which had been led for much of the afternoon by the team of Malcolm McKenzie and Colin Stewart on net 62, eventually finishing second. Third was Paul Donnelly's team on 62.6, and fourth equal on 63.2 were the teams of Frank McKenna / D. Nielsen and the McManus / Monney team.
Best scratch scores of the day went to the McKenna team and Mark Ferguson / D. McClement on 70, the latter team winning the prize on countback.
Longest drive went to Graham Manuel's partner, Craig Hughes at the 4th/13th, and the straightest drive was the Walter Dobbin team's effort at the 9th. Nearest the pin was Alasdair Ross' team at the 14th, and the Hidden Hole winners were Bill Pollock's team (the 6th). There were 6 Magic 2 winners at the 1st hole, and you can see all these results and more here.
Meanwhile, the protagonists enjoy the Gala Dance this evening, many returning tomorrow, Sunday, for the Gents / Ladies / Junior Texas Scramble. If you aren't playing, why not come out and support your favourite team. If it's half as exciting as today, you'll be in for a treat!
Alastair's team wins the Gala Texas Scramble
The team of Alastair Creevy, Irene McLennan and Ross Creevy have won the Gala Weekend Texas Scramble, Alastair's second year in a row with a score of net 61.5.
Two in a row for Alastair!

Alastair Creevy
With all the team handicaps lying between 4.1 and 9.5, a good gross score was always going to be necessary, and indeed the first 8 teams all had gross scores of 72 or under. Second in the competition was Team Littlejohn - Stevie, Paula and Craig - just .4 of a stroke behind on net 61.9, and third place went to team Holt - David, Christine and Stuart - on net 63. A very close competition! The best gross score of the day went to team Littlejohn with their 66, but their team handicap of 4.1 wasn't quite enough to win them the competition. Longest drive went to Craig Littlejohn; Team McColl had nearest the pin from Lynn AND longest Junior drive from Meghan; and straightest drive was achieved by Paul Duff in the team with his Dad Michael and Christine Taggart. The top twelve teams all had net scores under 68, the competition completing a highly successful and competitive Gala weekend. Click here to see all the Texas Scramble results.
